Have you ever notice how many people from central and north NJ often get Hamilton Township, NJ confused with another of the same name located north of Trenton NJ?  Most new residents learn to say they are from Mays Landing, NJ to save time as the locals have for years!
The historic village of Mays Landing in Hamilton Township also has the distinction of being the County Seat of Atlantic County since 1837. Mays Landing is also home to Atlantic Cape Community College; Atlantic County Institute of Technology; Atlantic County Justice Facility; the County Court Complex; and the main branch of the Atlantic County Library. Hamilton Township’s origins are directly tied to the Great Egg Harbor River and its tributaries which runs through it. George May, after whom the village of Mays Landing was named, built a shipyard and trading post near Babcock Creek in 1756.
Growing in the past 30 years the eastern quarter of the township has developed as a suburban-like feel to it, due to its status as a Pinelands Regional Growth Area (RGA). Mandated to absorb growth and demand fueled by Atlantic City in the past, Hamilton’s (RGA) now is home to the majority of its growing residents. It is also home to over 3 million square feet of first class retail establishments including Hamilton Mall and Consumer Square. Recent commercial development still prevails, the latest Benderson development where the Sleep Number Store resides on the BHP just had a drive thru Star Bucks open and a nail salon to open soon too next to it. Across the street on the BHP a new Outback Steak house is currently under construction near the Guitar Center Store. We have seen a shift in consumer shopping habits with technology advancements and online efficiency systems progressing now. The Hamilton Mall has a 2 big box stores closings with Sears and JC Penny`s soon in the advent of the consumer ordering more online, hopefully the right niche business will fill those spaces, and it would beneficial to hopefully see an aviation related company or government agency eventually utilize the AC racetrack area for area job growth.
 The residential real estate market improved in Mays Landing over the last year. Single family home sales are up year 2017 to year 2018- a solid 8%, along with days on market till sold dropping for a 25.6% improvement. More good news is the median sales price rose up 14% as well. The townhouse-condo segment saw a nice jump up to a 21.6% increase too. The adult 55 plus sales saw improvement last year with a 13% improvement for higher sales prices, and faster closing marketing time of 22.8% for quicker settlements. The most expensive single family home to sell last year was a beautiful 4 BR 3 bath with 300 ft of great Egg Harbor River frontage with deep water dock and boat lift for $682,500.00.
Mays Landing has beautiful diversification in landscape and design, from farms to large shopping centers to the historic downtown feel, you owe it to yourself to make sure you get to utilize the scenic nature and beauty of the Great Egg Harbor River and Lake Lenape as the weather is breaking this spring!
